GIN COCKTAIL MASTERCLASS - 20 JUNE 2026
Twelve members of the Gin Tasting Group went into Birmingham on a Saturday afternoon to attend a "Gin Cocktail Masterclass" at The Gin Vault in Gas Street Basin.
MAXSTOKE CASTLE DAYTRIP - 14 JUNE 2026
On Sunday 14 June, eighteen (18) members of Silhill u3a went on a day trip to Maxstoke Castle, a beautifully preserved 14th-century moated fortified manor house located near Coleshill in North Warwickshire. Completed in 1345 by Sir William de Clinton, 1st Earl of Huntingdon, it remains one of the oldest privately owned, continuously inhabited castles in the country. The Dilke family (now the Fetherston-Dilkes) purchased the property in 1599 and have maintained stewardship for over 400 years. Photos from our trip are shown below:
TRIP TO SHERBOURNE RECYCLING CENTRE
On 10 March 2026, sixteen (16) members from Silhill u3a went on a coach outting to a recycling centre in Coventry where all the recycling from Solihull council is taken for processing. The tour started with an educational talk where we learned about the processes, equipment, machinery and technology at what is one of Europe's most advanced Materials Recycling Facities (MRFs). We then suited up in our protective gear for a walk through the operations wharehouse to see the technology in action.

As we enjoy so many outings and visits, the committee thought it would be a good idea for us all to have an emergency contact number on our mobile phones. Add ICE and a name, eg ICE Fred and the contact's telephone number to your contact list on your phone. ICE is recognisable as "In Case of Emergency" In case of an accident or emergency your chosen person can be contacted.
